About triathlonscotland
triathlonscotland is the national governing body for triathlon, duathlon and multi-sport and is responsible for governing all matters in relation to these sports in Scotland except:
1 - British championship and international events;
2 - The management of Olympic and other Great Britain elite performance programmes;
3 - The selection and management of Great Britain teams;
4 - International representation of Scottish interests where these are treated by international bodies on a United Kingdom or Great Britain basis.
In addition, triathlonscotland currently uses British bodies to formulate and implement anti-doping policies.
About Triathlons
A triathlon involves a swim, followed, by a cycle, and finally a run (with no rests in between!). A duathlon is similar and has a run, a cycle, and then a second run. Some triathlons have pool based swims while some are done in the open water, often with wetsuits (and always in Scotland!). There are also sets of standard distances which are shown below -
You may find that some of the races near you have slightly different distances, this is normal as in the end the distance is determined by the location and course.
If you’re interested in triathlon then why not look for a race near you or download some tips and advice for novices. Triathlon is a sport for all, and you can either take part as an individual or as part of a relay team. There is also a list of clubs that can be downloaded, why not find your nearest and pop along and introduce yourself, there are lots of people of varying ages and levels of fitness so don’t hesitate come on and try a tri.
