Funding

Triathlon Scotland is thankful that sportscotland continue to provide financial support to coaches to help meet the cost of coach education qualifications via application based subsidies. The subsidy application process is open to both newcomers to coaching and those already on the coaching pathway. Applications should be made directly to sportscotland, details of this process and links to the relevant webpages can be found below.

Subsidy Amount

Please see information on course costs and subsidy amounts detailed below:

Qualification  Total Course Cost Subsidy Amount Course Cost
(if applying for subsidy)
Level 1 £320 £75 £245
Level 2 £620 £350 £270
Level 3 £1200 Up to £720 £480 – £1200

Subsidy Application Process – Level 1 & Level 2

  • Candidates complete a sportscotland UKCC subsidy application a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the course start date.
  • Candidates complete a Triathlon Scotland course application (including valid Triathlon Scotland membership) and submit along with their candidate course contribution a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the course start date.

Subsidy Application Process – Level 3

Given the very high fee involved in  such a substantial course, candidates submit an application directly to Triathlon Scotland and pay the subsidised rate depending on the level of subsidy provided up front.

Subsidy applications must be submitted to sportscotland at least 4 weeks in advance of the course start date. Please note that the subsidy amount is claimed by Triathlon Scotland on behalf of candidates who have had their application fully processed and approved by sportscotland.

Local Authority Coach Education Funding

A large number of Local Authorities offer additional funding to help towards the cost of your coaching qualification if you aim to coach at a club within the local authority area upon completion of your qualification – some offer as much as 75% towards the cost of your course. In the majority of cases, a funding application form must be submitted in advance of the course and the applicant/club must pay for the course up front. If successful in obtaining funding either you or your club will receive the funding once the course has been completed and proof of attendance and success submitted.

Please refer to your relevant Local Authority sports development website for further information. If you have any questions or are unsure where to find the relevant information please contact our Coaching Development Manager, Susie Benson, who will be happy to help.
