What is event sanctioning?

Event sanctioning (also known as event permitting) is a process race organisers follow to register their event. Race organisers provide event details and a risk assessment for review. When approved, triathlonscotland issue a sanction certificate to be displayed at the event.

The aims of event sanctioning are to ensure as far as possible that the event will:

  • be safe for the general public, spectators, race officials, volunteers and competitors
  • not cause undue nuisance to the general public
  • be fair and conducted according to the rules and meet insurance requirements
  • meet the minimum standard expected, taking into account the type of event being registered

If you are interested in an event and it is not listed here, then ask the race organiser why it is not sanctioned, and ask to see a copy of their event insurance.

You will see sanctioning status when you click on the event you are interested in. It will either say "approved" or "in progress". We reserve the right to deny sanctioning or remove sanctioning from a race at any time. If denied or removed, we will inform all members and remove the race listing.

For more information, please read our triathletes guide to event sanctioning and if you have any questions please email events@triathlonscotland.org or call 01786 466903.

Happy racing!
