Triathlete Greg Turner was sandwiched between some sibling rivalry in the British Youth and Junior Aquathlon Championships at the weekend.
Turner, from Newton Mearns in Glasgow, collected the silver medal in the Junior event at Hyde Park in London, the race won by high ranked European Junior Tom Bishop.
The triathlonscotland Performance Squad athlete’s display saw him finish ahead of Bishop’s twin brother David, who came third.
Turner’s Scottish team-mate Andy Hood, one of two British triathletes selected for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore next month, came fifth overall.
He said: “It was a tough swim, it was pretty quick but I found some free water and managed to come out pretty high up. The run was very fast, and the heat made the run tough.”
In the Youth event, Blantyre’s Grant Sheldon earned a bronze medal, finishing behind Blenheim and Eton champion Gordon Benson.
A thrilling sprint finish saw Marc Austin take sixth position, narrowly missing out on a top five place.
National Performance Development Coach Chris Volley said: "The athletes racing in Hyde Park were there as part of an intensive race experience camp. The aquathlons were their third race in four days, so the outcomes were based more towards learning how to be organised and disciplined with recovery and travel routines.
"The fact that two of the team came back with medals was a huge bonus to the learning outcomes of the camp. I was particularly happy for the medal winners, Greg [Turner] has been incredibly patient with his progression in the last two years and Grant [Sheldon] is still only in his first year of the sport.
