The aim of the triathlonscotland performance programme is achieve
the following:
10% of all GB standard distance triathlon teams (across Youth, Junior, U23 and Senior categories) will comprise of Scottish athletes by 2012, with a view to having a Scottish athlete in the London 2012 Great Britain Olympic team
This means that the main focus of triathlonscotland’s performance programme will be to identify talented athletes and support them on their way to making a Great Britain Team in standard distance triathlon. Athletes who have the potential to medal in Long Distance Triathlon & Duathlon will also be supported by the programme but will not be eligible for sportscotland Individual Athlete Support awards.
Athletes selected initially for squads must meet a minimum performance standard and then demonstrate improvements towards international standards to retain their place in the squad.
The triathlonscotland performance programme is funded through sportscotland lottery funding which enables us to run a High Performance Centre at Stirling University (www.stir.ac.uk) and employs John Dargie as a full time National High Performance Coach. The programme also receives support from the Scottish and Area Institutes of Sport
Anyone interested in being considered for triathlonscotland performance squads should check through the criteria which also explains the squad structure – and if you think you meet it please contact Fiona Lothian, Performance Director, performance@tri-scotland.org, 07753 790 225
