triathlonscotland has established a performance programme which aims to achieve:
- 10% Scottish involvement in al GB standard distance triathlon teams by 2012
- One Scottish athlete in Team GB for London 2012 and two for Rio 2016
- A full Scottish team capable of winning a medal and further top 10 results at Glasgow 2014
The purpose of triathlonscotland’s selection policy is to identify talented athletes and support them on their way to achieving these goals. The current selection policy is available to download from the left-hand menu.
Athletes selected for squads must meet a minimum performance standard and continue to demonstrate improvements towards international standards to retain their place in the squad. There is an annual programme of training camps and race events, to which selected athletes are expected to commit. These are designed not just to enhance technical skills, but also to develop robust athletes, able to succeed in competition.

The performance programme receives significant, annually agreed, investment from sportscotland, which enables us to run the national programme from our base on campus at the University of Stirling, which is recognised as Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence. A number of triathlon scholarships are also available.
This provides a hub for our annual training programme and accommodates triathletes who are based on campus and and those who attend weekly sessions and training camps. Squad athletes are offered access to coaching and facility in the Stirling area and invites to subsidised camps and race expeditions.
Chris Volley has been employed as full time National Performance Development Coach since March 2008. He leads the Scottish programme and links with GB management and coaches in support of Scottish athletes who have reached the GB squad. Former athlete, Blair Cartmell has been appointed as the High Performance Centre coach, working alongside Chris to support the performance squad and manage the Stirling University Triathlon Club. Athletes on the development programme also receive support from the sportscotland Institute of Sport network.
triathlonscotland's performance squad benefit from the continued support by 2XU, who are now in their second year as the official triathlon clothing and compression suppliers. The squad members are delighted with their stylish black and silver kit. See: www.2xushop.co.uk. Discounts on compression wear are available to race licence holders through The Tri Centre in Edinburgh. Call 0131 662 8777 for more details.
The Peak, Forthbank is Active Stirling’s state of the art new sports centre, which will allow performance squad athletes to be put though their swim drills in a guaranteed early morning slot.
Any athlete interested in being considered for triathlonscotland performance squads should check through the criteria, which also explain the squad structure. Selections are generally made in September each year.
