Talent Identification

Scotland's national performance programme is split into three squads - podium, development and foundation - for triathletes aged 14 upwards.

Squad selection is carried out through annual assessment days. Full details are outlined in the Squad Selection Policy document, with triathletes confirmed following consultation by the Performance Working Group (PWG). The performance targets for our triathletes are agreed with sportscotland and monitored by the PWG.

Foundation Squad

At the base of the performance programme, athletes selected for the Foundation Squad receive a taster of an endurance athlete's training schedule and discover the work ethic required to progress along the performance pathway.

Development Squad

Considered the most important stage of the performance process, athletes will be selected from the Foundation Squad provided they have consistently proven they have the ability, aptitude and commitment to work towards achieving the goals of the performance programme. Development Squad athletes are normally also nominated to the sportscotland institute of sport network.

Podium Squad

The top tier of the Performance Programme, it supports athletes who have shown ability to be genuine medal contenders for major championships in the senior elite category. These athletes are often also supported by British Triathlon's World Class Programme and the sportscotland institute of sport.
