Volunteer Glasgow 2018
A message from John Whittaker Competition Manager for Triathlon Glasgow 2018
2018 is an exciting year for Scottish Triathlon fans, including me! In August the European Championships comes to Glasgow and Scotland will host the European Elite Standard Distance and Mixed Relay Triathlon Championships.
Alongside, we will be hosting the European Age Group Sprint championships and all three events will take place in Strathclyde Country Park.
We can’t guarantee the weather we had in 2014 but we do want to guarantee familiar excitement and experience for the competitors and spectators. My role is to manage the event and I need your help!
To be effective we need a volunteer race team. There will be a wide variety of roles, some interacting with competitors and the spectating audience and some managing aspects of the race course.
We want the triathlon community to have the first opportunity to be involved and would welcome your application; therefore we have created a special code to add to your application form. This will help us to identify more easily those with sport specific experience. If you have triathlon specific knowledge then contact firstname.lastname@example.org and Gemma and Morven can issue the code to you.
Clubs can assemble too! We will especially welcome club groups who might be willing to “own” on a section of the course, such as a club taking the control of an aid station. Just let us know!
If you are still not sure what the European Championships is, the event is to be staged every four years and is a new multi-sport event which brings together the existing European Championships of some of the continent’s major sports. Aquatics, Cycling, Golf, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon will all feature in Glasgow. Athletics will be contested in Berlin. If you would like to know more please call me on 07387231796
