Weekend Preview 2-3 June

It’s another jam-packed weekend with lots of international and domestic racing.

International racing kicks off in Italy with the Cagliari ITU Triathlon World Cup on Saturday. Commonwealth Games athlete Beth Potter will be racing in the sprint distance event alongside a strong British team.

On Sunday, Slovakia hosts The Championship, a flagship event in the Challenge Family Series which carries a larger than usual prize purse, and so attracts an exciting list of athlete’s. Alice Hector is on great form heading into this weekend’s race after impressive results at Challenge Roma the Volcano Triathlon.

Back in the UK, Chester Triathlon Club is hosting the Deva triathlon on Sunday. The event includes two chances for Age Group athletes to qualify for the 2018 Gold Coast ITU Standard Distance Triathlon World Championships and 2019 ITU Standard Distance Triathlon World Championships.

Blenheim Palace welcomes elite juniors and seniors this Sunday for the Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon. Races are mixed with first-year junior athlete’s racing in the youth race and the older juniors taking part in the senior race. The Youth race will act as Britain’s Youth Olympic Games qualification race.

Heading South to race in historic grounds of Blenheim Palace are a number of Scottish elite Junior and Youth athletes including; Calum Young, Andrew Rolland, Hamish Armitt, Isla Britton, Kate Richardson, Heather Barnes, Lily Jane Evans-Haggerty, Emma Calder, Guy Evans-Haggerty, Cameron Main, Johnny Jackson, Forbes Jackson, Luca Fanotolli, Fergus Roberts, Cameron Harris, Kate Gallagher, Sophia Green, Becky Storrie and Julie Nimmo.

In Scotland, there are a number of races taking place over the weekend. In Arran, the Islands-2-Island Triathlon Festival takes place on Saturday and is packed with racing for all! There’s a youth triathlon as well as middle, standard and sprint distance races. Beginning with a sea swim for everyone, the bike will be a full loop of the island or an out and bike route (depending on the distance) and the run will be a tarmac track following the sea. Run by the Isle of Arran Junior Triathlon Club, it looks to be a fantastic weekend of triathlon.

On Sunday, The Tri Angus Montrose Triathlon includes a novice and sprint event that takes place at the Montrose Sports Centre. Novice participants complete a 400m swim, and the sprint a 750m swim. The bike route takes in some of the best views on offer in Angus, out of the town and on to quiet country roads, where the novice will cover 12km and the sprint 20km. Finally, the run offers participants some fresh sea air as both races complete the 5km beachfront run. The ever-popular event has a full start list with 250 participants entered.

In the Borders, the Borders Triathlete’s are hosting their Youth Aquathlon. This event is a swim followed by a run with the running taking place on traffic-free paths and varying depending on the age of the athlete.

Also on Sunday, The Stirling Triathlon takes place at the University of Stirling. This sell-out event takes place in the grounds of the University where it offers; a sprint, novice, TriStar racing and relay options as well. With over 600 competitors across all the distances and age groups, this is a well-established hugely popular event set on a challenging but picturesque course.
