Weekend Preview 21-22 July

It’s an early start to this weekend’s racing with the Tartu ETU Triathlon European Championships taking place in Estonia from today until Sunday!

The first Scottish athlete in action in Tartu is Alison Patrick. Racing with guide Hannah Drewett in the PTVI category this morning, the pair took GOLD and the European Championship title.   Full results are coming through from all the team, to keep up with the action, click here.

Joining Patrick in Tartu is Erin Wallace who is set to race in the Junior Women’s event on Friday at 7am (BST). Wallace is back in a trisuit this week after placing 7th in the 1500m event at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Tampere last weekend! Beth Potter and Grant Sheldon will also be racing in the senior events on Friday with Potter racing at 11am (BST) and Sheldon 1pm (BST).

Back in the UK, athlete’s get ready to head South for the Hetton Lyons Super Saturday Triathlon, a British Triathlon Super Series event. The event includes Youth and Junior individual races as well as a Mixed Relay event. A number of Triathlon Scotland Academy and Performance squad athletes as well as IRC athletes are on the start list to compete in the individual and Relay events. The Youth race in Hetton is also a qualification race for the UK School Games and European Youth Championships. For more information on selection policies for these events, check the links above.

As the points stand in the British Youth and Junior Super Series table, Lily Jane Evans-Haggerty  leads the Youth Female’s with Isla Britton in third and Kate Richardson in eighth. In the Junior Male table, Guy Evans-Haggerty leads with Calum Young in seventh place, fantastic results for the Scottish athletes. To check the full Series standings, click here.

In Scotland, the popular Gullane Beach Standard Distance Triathlon returns on Saturday, and on Sunday we have the Inverurie Novice and Sprint Triathlons.

Tri Angus, a triathlon social enterprise, launch their second event for the Angus area, the Forfar Triathlon and our popular GO TRI  beginners open water sessions continue at Pinkston Watersports Centre, with the second taking place on Sunday.  A third session has been added for Friday 7 September at 6pm.   To sign up, click here.
