Weekend Review 17-18 February

On Saturday 17 February, British triathletes were triumphant at the Etna ETU Winter Triathlon European Championships.

There were six medals; two gold, two silver and two bronze won in Italy including a gold for Simon Hedley to add to the ITU World Championship gold he won last month. Scottish member Ian Anderson won silver in the 50-54 age category, and British Triathlon President, Ian Howard, represented the team well with a bronze medal in the 60-64 age category.

The race covered a 5km run, 9.6km mountain bike and 10.8km cross country ski.

The Inverurie Duathlon took place yesterday at Kellands Park. The event was the second race in this year’s Aberdeenshire Winter Duathlon series and over 110 participants raced the 5km run, 21km bike, 5km run route.

The first male was Aberdeen Triathlon Club’s Swiad Worms (1:09:27) who posted the fastest run time completing the first 5km lap in 15:29. Swiad was followed by Lewis Champion (1:11:01) and Peter Matthews (1:13:13) who finished second and third respectively. The first female over the line was Deeside Thistle Cycling Club’s Emma Smith (1:18:57). Coralie Arthur (1:22:41) finished second in front of Team Ecosse Northboats Jacqueline Ross (1:23:03).
