Youth

There are plenty of opportunities for young people to participate in triathlon, with events run throughout the season including an Aquathlon Series - combining swimming and running - and the Scottish Schools and Youth Triathlon Championships.

triathlonscotland also runs training camps for the youth and junior athletes on the performance programme and their training has paid off, with the Scottish Youth team performing consistently well in the GB Inter-Regional Youth Triathlon Championships.

Youths and juniors compete in set age group categories, broken down into: eight years; 9-10 years; 11-12 years; 13-14 years; 15-16 years and under 20, with age taken as on 31 December of the year of competition.

Any athlete who completes in four or more events can achieve a series ranking with overall positions decided using the competitor's best four events. Points are awarded equally across the series events, with 10 points for a win, nine for second down to one, awarded to every competitor. In the event of a tied position at the end of the series, the standing is shared.

Points are also awarded to the clubs ranking for the Aquathlon Series.  Important - to be eligible to win an overall ranking series award, participants must be a member of triathlonscotland.  To find out how to join triathlonscotland, please click here and apply before 31 May.

Many of the current performance programme athletes started out competing in aquathlons, but it is also a great opportunity to meet and make new friends.
