Coach Development Opportunities

To support coaches after completing a Triathlon Scotland Coaching Qualification, British Triathlon have developed a number of one-day coaching workshops. Please find details below regarding the content of the three modules currently available and how to register.

 

Open Water Coaching

The British Triathlon Open Water workshop is a one-day coaching CPD workshop containing a mix of practical and classroom activities aimed primarily at coaches who currently deliver or would like to deliver coached open water sessions.

As well as getting hands-on practical experience coaching a group of open water swimmers, you will also cover:

  • The types of activities that can go into an open water session and how to integrate these into a session plan
  • The health and safety of open water coaching and what to look for in a venue when delivering open water sessions
  • Coaching skills for effective open water session delivery
  • How to effectively manage a safety team and gaining an insight on how to best work with them.

Pre-requisites

Minimum of Level 1 Triathlon Coach qualification

Club Head Coach Workshop

The British Triathlon Head Coach workshop is aimed primarily at coaches who are performing the role of Head Coach within a club environment and aims to support their development within that position.

The keys aims of the workshop are to:

  • Provide Head Coaches with sufficient knowledge to perform the role;
  • Build regional communities (groups) of Head Coaches to share ideas, best practice and support each other long-term
  • Support coaches with their own development and lifelong learning.
  • Aid the development of clubs with a view to long-term development and sustainability
  • Assist Head Coaches in supporting the development of other coaches within their Clubs/regional communities, e.g. Assistant Head Coaches

Strength & Conditioning for Triathlon Coaches

The British Triathlon Strength & Conditioning workshop is a one-day coaching CPD workshop containing a mix of practical and classroom activities designed to develop your understanding and ability to effectively coach S&C sessions.

Developed in conjunction with British Triathlon Strength & Conditioning coaches Ian Pyper and Stephen Breisner, the workshop focuses on the following areas:

  • Introduction to S&C in Triathlon- What you need to know?
  • The Needs Analysis Process
  • Programming Principles
  • How to deliver effective preparation and warm up activities
  • Lower body, core conditioning, and upper body exercises

The workshop content has been designed to allow coaches to deliver body weight focused S&C sessions within the remit of their coaching qualifications in a club environment with minimal or no equipment. The workshop does not cover Olympic or powerlifting.
