22nd Sep 2025 | Written by Pamela Sneddon

Triathlon Scotland’s emerging triathletes made their mark at the 2025 Inter Regional Championships (IRCs), held on 13-14 September 2025 at Mallory Park. The event brought together more than 200 of Britain’s brightest young talents across the TriStar 2 and TriStar 3 categories, representing 13 regions – the 10 English regions, plus Scotland, Wales, and Jersey – for a packed weekend of racing.

The championship format tested every skill, combining individual heats and finals on Saturday with the Transition Challenge and fast-paced Mixed Team Relays on Sunday. Scotland fielded a full squad of 16 athletes – eight TriStar 2s and eight TriStar 3s – and each athlete rose to the challenge with spirited, determined performances. By the close of racing, Scotland secured an impressive 7th place finish overall, highlighting the strength and depth of its young talent.

On Saturday, strong individual performances set the tone. Eddie Niven finished 5th in the A Final of the TriStar 2 Open category, while Olivia Lyne also claimed 5th in the TriStar 3 Female category, demonstrating composure and skill under pressure.

Sunday’s Transition Challenge provided further success. Eddie Niven took 1st place, with Olivia Lyne following closely in 3rd, and Caladh Macdonald placing 10th in their respective events. The challenge showcased the athletes’ technical ability and focus under high pressure conditions.

The weekend concluded with the Mixed Team Relays, delivering fast paced excitement and highlighting the teamwork and tactical awareness of Scotland’s squad. Slick changeovers and determined racing underlined the commitment and adaptability of the young athletes, while fair competition and sportsmanship were evident throughout.

With a 7th place overall finish against Britain’s strongest young triathletes, the 2025 IRCs offered invaluable experience and a platform for growth. For many of Scotland’s athletes, it was their first taste of national level racing, providing both inspiration and a glimpse of the exciting future ahead in the sport.
