The Swim, Bike, Run Leader Award is designed to equip learners 14+ with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead guided swims, bike rides and runs for groups of beginners and intermediate level adults and children. The course follows a blended learning approach, comprising four self-led online learning modules of approximately 1 hour each and 2 x 2-hour online workshop facilitated by a tutor.
Who is it for?
The Swim, Bike, Run Leader Award is aimed at club members who’d like to become more involved in local triathlon activity, but who can’t commit to a coaching qualification. The Swim, Bike, Run Leader Award equips that individual with the tools to lead safely and with confidence.
Leader vs. Coach
There is a key distinction between the following two terms, which is imperative to understanding the remit of a Leader. A LEADER guides and supports people through recreational swim, bike and run activity. They are there to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience. A COACH plans and delivers sessions focussing on improving performance – whether that be by coaching technique or setting clear performance goals to a session. The Swim, Bike, Run Leader Award does not enable individuals to coach in their club.
Why is it relevant in clubs?
The Swim, Bike, Run Leader Award can support clubs by easing coaching pressures, promoting safe practice, and encouraging continuous development of its members. A Leader can guide recreational club activity, freeing up coaches to coach. From a club’s point of view, encouraging members who are guiding swim, bike and run activity to undergo appropriate training is good practice, and should be encouraged.
