Youth Triathlon
Triathlon Scotland has a budding and lively youth section and with the increasing popularity of the sport as well as an increase in youth sections in our clubs, more and more kids are getting in to triathlon.
Youth Membership
Triathlon Scotland membership for young people is available for children aged 6-16 years. Joining gives them the opportunity to take part in the Scottish National Championships and the National Triathlon Series, helping young athletes gain experience and confidence in a supportive environment. Membership can be purchased online.
This membership includes a race licence as well as fantastic public liability insurance (£15m cover) for training and racing in Britain. Members also benefit from personal accident cover and access to exclusive discounts with leading triathlon retailers.
Find A Club
Clubs are at the heart of triathlon in Scotland and a number of the clubs around the country have recognised that providing opportunities for young people to take part is key to the future of our sport. Clubs with youth sections normally have youth specific training sessions and dedicate youth section coaches. Use our club finder page to find a suitable club in your area.
Event Opportunities
There are a lot of opportunities out there for the most seasoned young triathlete to the absolute beginner, including the National Triathlon Series and the annual Scottish National Youth Triathlon Championships.
Youths and juniors compete in set age group categories as below:
- TriStar Start – Age 8
- TriStar 1 – Age 9-10
- TriStar 2 – Age 11-12
- TriStar 3- Age 13-14
- Youth A – Age 15-16
Age is taken as per 31 December of the year of competition.
Scottish Schools Championships
The Scottish Schools Championships is an aquathlon held during the school day that is open to all pupils in S1 to S6 and features both individual races and a mixed team relay. Further information on how to enter can be found on our Scottish Schools Championship page.
