Individual women’s and men’s events
In the Commonwealth Games Triathlon competition, each nation is allowed to enter a maximum of three men and three women for the Individual events, from which it then selects two men and two women to combine for the Mixed Team Relay.
Both the individual women’s and men’s events are a combination of a 750m open water swim, 20km cycle and 5km run completed in immediate succession.
The competition is a finals phase only with transition areas positioned between the swim and cycle segments (T1), and the cycle and run segments (T2). These areas are used by athletes to rack bikes, performance clothing and any other accessories essential for preparing for the next section of the race.
Mixed Team Relay
Now well established on the international triathlon stage, it comprises athletes completing a super-sprint triathlon. The Mixed Team Relay teams consisted of four athletes: two women and two men. Each athlete is required to complete a course of 250m open water swim, 7km cycle and 1.5km run, before tagging their team mate. The Mixed Team Relay race order is: female – male – female – male.
Paratriathlon PTVI women’s and men’s events
The PTVI event is for athletes with a total or partial visual Impairment. These athletes must compete with a guide of the same nationality and gender throughout the race and they must ride a tandem during the bike segment.
In the Commonwealth Games Paratriathlon PTVI competition, each nation is allowed to enter a maximum of two men and two women.
The Paratriathlon event is a combination of a 750m open water swim, 20km tandem cycle and 5km run completed in immediate succession. The competition is a finals phase only with transition areas positioned between the swim and cycle segments (T1), and the cycle and run segments (T2).
In the PTVI class there are three sub-classes (PTVI1, PTVI2 & PTVI3) PTVI1 which for athlete who are the most visually impaired with very little to no light perception to PTVI3 which is for athletes who are the least severely impaired.
PTVI1 athletes have an advantage with a staggered start ahead of the PTVI2 and PTVI3 athletes. PTVI2 and PTVI3 men start 3:21 minutes after PTVI1 men and PTVI2 and PTVI3 women start 3:48 minutes after PTVI1 women.”
