Activator Awards

All sports need inspirational individuals who motivate people to take part and stay involved in sporting activity.

Young Activator Award

The Triathlon Young Activator course has been designed to help young people aged 14 – 17 develop the skills and experience to improve the enjoyment and quality of club and school triathlon sessions, helping to further grow the sport.

What types of activities can Young Activators do after attending the course?

  • Assist a coach with the set up and running of club activities.
  • Lead sessions under the supervision of a suitable adult. This might involve helping to organise an activity within a session i.e. a transition skills challenge, leading the warm-up/cool down or splitting athletes into groups in preparation for the session.
  • Assist in wider club or school triathlon activities such as volunteering or helping to organise participation events or other competitions.

Course Content/Structure

The Triathlon Young Activator Course lasts 6 hours and covers the following areas:

  • What is triathlon?
  • What is a Young Activator?
  • What skills, attributes and values does a Young Activator need?
  • What do you need to consider when planning and leading sessions?
  • What makes a fun and engaging triathlon session/activity?

The first two thirds of the course, are classroom based, but don’t worry as the sessions are fully interactive, require creativity and involve group working.

The final part of the course is based outside or in a sports hall and everyone will have the opportunity to work in groups to plan and deliver a short triathlon session. Each participant will be required to take part in the sessions when it is not their turn to deliver so we ask that everyone comes along suitably dressed or with suitable clothes to change into.
