Triathlon Scotland Announces Appointment of New Commercial Director

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Commercial Director, Richard Rankin, a highly accomplished executive with over 30 years of leadership experience spanning corporate finance, strategic growth, and business transformation.

As Chief Executive Officer of H&H Group plc, Richard has led the organisation through a period of exceptional growth and operational development. Throughout his career, Richard has demonstrated a consistent ability to deliver results through strategic insight, M&A execution, stakeholder engagement, and innovative thinking. His approach blends deep commercial acumen with a people-centred leadership style that fosters empowerment, accountability, and long-term vision.

In addition to his executive career, Richard has held a range of non-executive and advisory roles, including Governor at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and Director at Cumbria Tourism, where he currently chairs the Finance and Remuneration Committee. He is also a member of Vistage and continues to invest in both his own development and that of future business leaders.

Reflecting on his appointment, a Triathlon Scotland Chair, Allister Short, said:

Richard, a GB level age group triathlete and multiple Ironman finisher, brings a wealth of commercial and business experience spanning 30 years. He will play a key role in supporting Triathlon Scotland progress our commercial strategy, working alongside the Board and the Chief Executive Officer.”

In his new role, Richard will be instrumental in driving Triathlon Scotland’s commercial strategy, identifying growth opportunities, and building strategic partnerships that align with our mission and values. His leadership will help steer the organisation into its next phase of development with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and measurable outcomes.

Outside of his professional achievements, Richard is a passionate endurance athlete. He has completed multiple Ironman events and proudly represented Great Britain at the 2023 European Championships in Belgium in the middle-distance triathlon category. He lives in Cumbria with his wife, their two dogs, and three grown-up children, and enjoys training, hill walking, and relaxing with a good film.
