CEO Update | October 2025
3rd Nov 2025 | Written by Pamela Sneddon
There is only one place to start this update… What a month for our performance athletes! Wow!
Millie Breese and Alex Robin representing Great Britain in the U23 and junior individual races respectively with Alex winning silver. They both then combined with team mates to secure relay gold. So very proud of their achievements and the coaching support here at the National Triathlon Centre through the coaching team of Marc Austin and Ailsa MacArthur. I also have to mention the great result for National Triathlon Centre athlete Tom Williamson (Ireland) out in Wollongong as well finishing 6th in the PTS5 (Para Triathlon Standing) category, I managed to chat with Tom this week about his reflections. I am grateful to the University of Stirling for their continued partnership in delivering the NTC.
I have to congratulate all the Scottish Age-groupers who were out in Australia representing GBR in the Age Group World Champs, what an achievement! More on age group racing later in this update.
So delighted to see Sophia Green return to the start line after major surgery. Not only being back at the start line but making the podium and finishing second at Challenge Barcelona.
This is an exciting week ahead for Cam Main who is out in Marbella for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. I’ve been following his preparations on Instagram, slightly jealous of the sunshine, and look forward to watching the coverage this weekend. You can find our more about the race and coverage through the dedicated page here.
As it has a tendency to do so, sport brings highs and lows, the cancellation of the Celtic Cup this year was definitely the latter! It was the right call to cancel with the storm and 3m swells forecasted for Llandudno. We are talking with our colleagues in Wales in relation to our 2026 schedule and how we get the 2025 team racing against Wales. I’ve been listening to Catherine, the CEO at Welsh Triathlon as to how they support their domestic age group community and what we can learn from them and improve our support here in Scotland.
As the season draws to a close the team spends the first part of the off-season reflecting on the past event season – we look at the stats, we look at trends, collate the feedback we have, and understand and plan how we can grow event starts and improve race experiences for us all. Race starts in Scotland are up 1.1% this year compared to 2024, and we will be looking deeper into those numbers. One thing I know the team are focusing on during this off-season is how can we support race organisers more than we’ve ever done before. This is important to me because without races there isn’t a sport, but, if we can improve our support, we can grow the number of races and those making the start line, we all benefit through this.
As part of my own reflections of the race season here in Scotland, I’ve been thinking about my highlights and there have been so many, but I do have to zone in on the Island Games in Orkney. The sun shone, the world descended on Stromness, the crowds were amazing, the reception the Orcadian athletes received from the home crowd was fantastic, Bob and the team from Orkney Triathlon Club did an amazing job, and the TOs enjoyed their ice creams. Just brilliant.
Lastly the AGM will soon be upon us and for members. Watch out for the papers dropping in to your inbox. See you on 24 November.
Steve
