Results come flying in | Weekend Review 28-29 September

The season may be nearing its conclusion, but we are still seeing plenty of great results each weekend as Scottish athletes from age-group athletes to elites, continue to shine.

WTCS Weihai

Olympic bronze medalist Beth Potter continued her fight for a back-to-back world title as she took on another world-class field at the latest stop on the World Triathlon Championship Series in Weihai, China.

Competing on an exciting hilly course, Potter was closely linked to competitor Lisa Tertsch in the lead-up to the race, with current series leader Cassandra Beaugrand of France absent.

Potter positioned herself well after the swim, comfortably making the large front group as they tackled eight bike loops totalling 40 km. On the run, Tertsch managed to pull away early, but Potter created a gap from the rest of the field to eventually take second overall and secure valuable points before the grand final in two weeks in Torremolinos-Andalusia.

Craggy Island Triathlon

Athletes competed in the Craggy Island Triathlon on the Hebridean island of Kerrera, with the race offering a new swim and run course and a slightly altered bike course.

Ewan Dowd claimed the overall win in the Open race, finishing with a five-minute margin in 1:30:28. Euan Murphy of Trythan was second in 1:35:40, and Barry Sturrock of Grangemouth Triathlon Club was third in 1:38:34.

In the Female category, Megan Mowbray of Edinburgh Triathletes won by over a minute, crossing the line in 1:46:33. Hannah Terrance of Ayrodynamic was second in 1:47:59, and Catherine Rossiter of Edinburgh Triathletes was third in 1:53:00.

Floors Castle Duathlon

The brand-new Floors Castle Duathlon took center stage at the weekend, welcoming enthusiastic triathletes who had the chance to race in the event for the first time.

The event, organised by TriWorks, featured multiple races and distances throughout the day.

In the standard distance event, Harry Lamb was in top form, powering his way to victory in the Open event. Nathalie Brohan claimed victory in the Female event.

In the sprint distance event, Cameron Caves won the Open event, while Skye Davidson crossed the line first in the Female event.

MacQueen Bros Mid Argyll Triathlon and Aqauthlon

An event favourite for many of our Triathlon Scotland members, the MacQueen Bros Mid Argyll Triathlon and Aqauthlon put on another great event for triathletes across Scotland.

The event had two races going ahead, the main Sprint Triathlon, a sprint relay and an Aquathlon.

In the sprint race, Ruari Laskey of Glasgow Triathlon Club claimed victory in the Open race in 1:07.34. He was followed by Tom West of the University of Strathclyde Triathlon Club in 1:09.40 and David Carey in third in 1:10.10.

In the female category, Alison Roger won by nearly five minutes, clocking 1:15.36. Eilish Malcolm was second in 1:20.08 and Leah Haworth third in 1:20.58.
