24th Sep 2026 | Written by Hannah Graham

The 2026 Inter Regional Championships (IRCs) took place at Mallory Park on 29 and 30 August, as part of the British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final.

The event brought together 16+ athletes from each of the ten English regions plus, Scotland, Wales and Jersey, with the teams competing across individual racing, a transition challenge and mixed team relays throughout the weekend.

Our Scottish team of 18 athletes put in a fantastic performance across the weekend, finishing 8th overall out of all 13 regions. The team secured 3rd overall in the individual competition, tied for 3rd in the transition challenge and finished 11th in the mixed team relays.

Strong performances in the individual events

The individual competition saw our athletes compete across the TriStar 2 and TriStar 3 categories, with heats followed by A and B finals.

Due to the presence of blue-green algae in the lake, the races were changed to a duathlon format, with athletes competing over:

  • TriStar 2: 600m run, 2.9km bike, 800m run
  • TriStar 3: 870m run, 2.9km bike, 800m run

In the TriStar 2 Open category, Alex Ramsay qualified for the A Final, while Emrys Morley finished 4th in the B Final.

All four of our TriStar 2 female athletes progressed to the B Final, with Rowan Lennox finishing 3rd and Megan Birnie taking 6th.

In TriStar 3 Open, all four Scottish athletes qualified for the B Final. Leo McMahon produced an excellent performance to finish 2nd, with Eddie Niven finishing 8th.

There were particularly strong results in the TriStar 3 Female category, with three of our four Scottish athletes qualifying for the A Final. Emma Nicholson, Iyla Souter and Emi Daunt all lined up against some of the best athletes from across the UK. Emma Nicholson delivered an outstanding performance to finish 2nd overall, with Iyla Souter finishing 8th.

Scotland finishes 3rd in the individual team competition

The combined results from the individual races saw Scotland finish an impressive 3rd overall in the individual team competition, highlighting the strength and consistency of performances across all four categories.

This was a fantastic achievement for the whole team, with every athlete contributing valuable points throughout the competition.

Transition Challenge success

The transition challenge provided another opportunity for athletes to collect points for their regions, testing speed, efficiency and technical skills under pressure. Scotland tied for 3rd overall in the transition challenge, with several standout individual performances.

Emma Nicholson took 1st place in the female transition challenge, while Emi Daunt also secured a top-10 finish in 8th.

Eddie Niven continued his strong weekend with a 3rd-place finish in the male transition challenge.

Mixed Team Relays

The final event of the weekend was the mixed team relay, bringing the athletes together to compete as a team.

Scotland finished 11th in the relay competition, with the points from the relay added to those collected across the individual races and transition challenge.
