Lochore Aquathlon Achieves SheRACES Accreditation for 2025
The Lochore Aquathlon, a staple event in Scotland’s triathlon calendar, has been officially accredited by SheRACES for the 2025 season. This recognition underscores the event’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and gender equity in multisport competitions
What Is SheRACES Accreditation?
SheRACES is a UK-wide initiative aimed at making triathlon events more welcoming and supportive for women. To earn accreditation, events must meet a set of nine key commitments, including:
- Diverse marketing imagery that reflects a range of athletes
- Clear and accessible race information
- Affordable entry options and equipment hire
- Supportive on-course provisions, such as aid stations and facilities
- Regular reviews to ensure ongoing compliance
By aligning with these guidelines, the Lochore Aquathlon demonstrates its dedication to creating an environment where female athletes feel valued and supported.
Event Overview
Scheduled for Sunday, 22 June 2025, the Lochore Aquathlon at Lochore Meadows Country Park will feature the British Triathlon Youth & Junior Super Series and also host the British Elite Aquathlon Championships.
Super Series Aquathlon: Youth and Junior athletes will compete in a multi-race, multi-distance format, earning points toward the Super Series standings. This is the only aquathlon event in the 2025 series.
TriStar Races: Open to 9–14-year-olds, these races mirror the Super Series format and serve as a selection event for the Inter Regional Championships.
Swim Bike Run Mini: A new addition for 2025, this event offers a 200m swim and a 3km run for adults, and a 50m swim and 1km run for kids and families.
Adult Sprint Aquathlon: A traditional 800m swim and 5km run race for adults seeking a competitive challenge.
A Step Forward for Gender Equality in Triathlon
The SheRACES accreditation is a significant milestone for the Lochore Aquathlon, aligning with broader efforts to increase female participation in triathlon. Studies indicate that 88% of women are more likely to choose a race that actively supports women, highlighting the importance of such initiatives.
By achieving this accreditation, the Lochore Aquathlon not only enhances its appeal to female athletes but also sets a benchmark for other events in the region. Triathlon Scotland are hopeful that this move will inspire more women to participate in triathlon, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and diverse sporting community.
