Race Report | Rain Fails to Dampen Spirits at Glasgow University Aquathlon

The 2026 racing season got off to a soggy start on Sunday 1 March as 135 determined athletes braved persistent rain and muddy conditions at the 10th Glasgow University Aquathlon. Now in its second year at Scotstoun, the event drew strong university club contingents from Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Dundee, Aberdeen and St Andrews.

In the women’s event, Strathclyde’s Grace Campbell emerged from the 750m swim with the fastest split, closely shadowed by Amelie Dura of Edinburgh. But it was Lauren Doney of Dundee who delivered the standout performance on the 5km run, overhauling both leaders to claim victory in 31:00. Dura followed in 31:22, with Campbell securing third in 32:02.

The open race saw Glasgow’s Jamie Ferries set the pace in the water, though teammate Fergus Currie overtook him through transition. Once on the run, however, it was Angus Lindsay of Fusion who dominated, clocking a rapid 26:53 to take the overall win. Edinburgh’s Thomas Robertson secured second in 27:29, while Currie finished third in 28:51.

Despite the weather, the event delivered fast racing, impressive club showings, and a strong start to the university multisport calendar.
