Staff Update | September 2025

Participation
It’s been a busy and exciting time for participation across the sport. University affiliation has officially launched, we’ve announced new Foundation Coaching opportunities that will give clubs and coaches more flexibility to grow, and looking ahead, planning is underway for our winter CPD programme for coaches and a series of member webinars.
We were thrilled to see our Inter Regional Championship team athletes race at Mallory Park – a real highlight of the month.
The SBR Mini Duathlon at West Lothian Cycle Circuit saw 115 participants enjoy a fun, family-friendly introduction to the sport, with races for kids and families. The afternoon featured a female-only race, something we’re keen to expand in the months ahead.
Events
This month, we’ve been supporting events across Scotland and planning for the future.
Two Scottish Championship events took place: the Scottish National Standard Distance Triathlon Championships at Knockburn, which was a success despite the weather, and the Scottish National Cross Triathlon Championships at Aviemore, where both newcomers and seasoned triathletes enjoyed racing in the sun.
The Glasgow Schools Triathlon brought 227 pupils from 32 schools together, braving wind and rain to give triathlon a go, with many trying the sport for the first time.
Work has started on next year’s Championship calendar, with early collaboration between Scotland, England, and Wales on major Age Group events. We’re hoping to announce the calendar in early October.
Performance
In France, Oscar Chirnside and Israel Noble made their senior debuts at the Grand Prix D2, gaining valuable experience against tough competition.
Doubling as the U23 Worlds qualifier, it was a hugely positive weekend at the British Senior Championships in Bala:
- Isla Hedley | 6th overall, 3rd U23
- Millie Breese | 3rd overall, 2nd U23, securing qualification to the World Triathlon Championships in Wollongong, Australia
- Anna Hedley | 14th overall
At the British Youth & Junior Championships in Mallory Park:
- Alex Robin | 1st Junior Open, securing qualification to the World Triathlon Championships in Wollongong, Australia.
- Israel Nobel | 2nd in his age group British Triathlon Super Series.
In Italy, the Xterra World Triathlon Championships:
- Isla Hedley | 3rd on the short course, 7th at full distance
Looking ahead:
- Alex Robin (Junior), Millie Breese (U23) and Tom Williamson (PTS5) are set for the World Championships in Wollongong, Australia (16–19 Oct).
Invitations have been sent to the athletes selected to join the Academy and Affiliate squads, with the first camp kicking off at Inverclyde Sports Centre in late September.
Safeguarding
Welfare Officers joined us for a webinar on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. The session explored the new British Triathlon ED&I Strategy, launched in April 2025, with a focus on creating a more welcoming, accessible sport for all.
As part of our safeguarding health check with Children First, we reviewed and successfully signed off the following safeguarding standards:
- Standard 2 – Every child’s rights and wellbeing are promoted, supported and safeguarded
- Standard 3 – Every child is protected from abuse
- Standard 5 – Every child has volunteers and staff working alongside them who have been considered suitable to work with children and young people
- Standard 6 – Every child has sports coaches and volunteers who are well supported and trained
Our work towards standards 7, 8, 1 and 2 will be reviewed in the coming months.
