Top Effort | Weekend Review 10-11 May

The Super Series returned to Llanelli for its 10th anniversary at the weekend as elite athletes from across the UK came together to race for major championships slots and European cup places.  The Kilkerran MOK racing also got underway with the opening event of the series taking place in the West of Scotland.

British Triathlon Super Series Llanelli 

The Super Series returned to Llanelli for its 10th anniversary with a full day of racing across youth, junior, senior, and paratri categories. Youth athletes raced over a super sprint while all others took on the sprint format, delivering high-paced action throughout the day.

In the Youth Boys – Tier 1 (Youth A/B), Israel Noble led the charge with a superb 3rd-place finish, exiting T2 in front after smart positioning on the bike. Ewan Mitchell also made the lead pack and finished a strong 10th. Oscar Chirnside and Ross Allen placed 27th and 30th respectively, while Euan Murphy was forced to withdraw after a crash while leading—wishing him a speedy recovery.

Tymek Chmielowski delivered a solid performance in the The Youth Boys event – Tier 2 (Open) to finish 10th overall and 5th in Youth A, showing continued progress in the sport.

Youth Female Rachel Caves ran her way to 21st (12th Youth A), climbing 10 spots after T2. Juliette Kidd finished 30th (19th Youth A) despite coming off her bike mid-race.

In the Junior/U23/Senior Female Millie Breese placed 5th overall and 3rd U23 after making the front bike group and holding strong on the run. Isla Hedley finished 9th (5th U23) despite battling a stitch. Solid efforts also came from Sam McInness (11th), Anna Hedley (13th), Maisie Aubrey (19th), and Jessica Taylor (26th/5th Junior). Jessica Heeps pushed through to finish 39th (15th Junior) after a crash in the main chase pack.

Thomas Robertson and Sam Beattie raced hard in a competitive field in the Junior/Senior – Tier 1 (Open) event, finishing 37th and 40th respectively, with Thomas 11th and Sam 13th in the Junior category.

In the Junior/Senior – Tier 2 (Open) race, Cameron Kerr had a standout race, finishing 3rd overall after exiting the swim in 2nd. Rory Treharne also impressed, placing 12th and 3rd Junior—likely securing future Tier 1 starts.

Kilkerran MOK Series – Race 1

Over fifty athletes competed at the Kilkerran MOK Series opening race at the weekend.

From Super Sprint racing, right through to Youth and TriStar Aquathlon racing, the event was the perfect opportunity for both beginners in the sport and those more experienced to participate.

In the Open category of the Super Sprint event, Cian Woodsend of Strathclyde University Triathlon Club put on a show by coming away with a comfortable victory in 43:35, while Sarah Griffin of Mid Argyll Triathlon & Cycle Club took the victory in 48:44 in the women’s event.
