Irvine Sprint Triathlon is your 2024 Triathlon Scotland Award winner for the Event of the Year.
In 2024, the Irvine Sprint Triathlon organised by Ayrodynamic Triathlon Club, utilised the beautifully clear and calm Shewalton Water to deliver an open water triathlon that was aimed as a gateway to triathlon for beginners.
A large team of volunteer kayakers made sure that novice swimmers were helped and encouraged around the course allowing them to overcome their fears and complete the race.
In the sold out event of 180 athletes, there were over 30 finishers completing their first triathlon, several juniors and for the first time a visually impaired para-triathlete as well as a number of experienced athletes who recorded some impressively fast times, all finishers were rewarded with a bespoke medal and a delicious post race buffet prepared by club members!
A post race survey showed 100% of those who took part would return to the race in future and over 95% rated the race as great for beginners.
