Safeguarding

Safeguarding continues to be a priority across our community, and it’s fantastic to see so many clubs taking it seriously. PVG checks are still being processed in high numbers, showing real commitment to creating safe environments for everyone in the sport. We’ve also been busy welcoming new Welfare Officers through our induction sessions, helping them settle into their important roles.

Earlier this month we hosted an anti-bullying webinar, opening up valuable conversations on how we can work together to protect athletes at every level.

Looking ahead, we’re encouraging all parents and carers to join our Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport webinar on Wednesday 8 October at 7pm. This is a brilliant opportunity to learn more and ensure we’re all working together to keep young people safe in our sport.

Events

August has been a month full of energy, planning and some truly exciting events. One highlight has been our visits to the Linlithgow Cycle Circuit, where final preparations are underway for our Swim Bike Run Mini Linlithgow on Sunday 31 August. This event is designed to showcase just how fun and accessible triathlon can be, with family, kids, open, and women and girls-only races on offer. The Fit For Girls group has been heavily involved in the planning, and we’re delighted they’ll be there on the day to lend their support.

Behind the scenes, there’s also been plenty of collaboration with British Triathlon and Welsh Triathlon as we work together on the selection of hosts for the 2026 British Triathlon Age-Group Major Events. Alongside this, plans are being shaped for the Scottish Championship Events, with evaluations and bids taking place over the coming weeks.

Of course, August has also delivered some brilliant racing. The Scottish National Middle Distance Championships at Aberfeldy proved to be a roaring success, with athletes tackling the challenging but rewarding course. You can read the full report here.

We also had the pleasure of travelling to Machrihanish for the MOK Standard Distance Triathlon. Set against a stunning coastal backdrop, the event was a real celebration of our sport, and you can catch up with our reflections here.

Participation

Beyond racing, participation has been a strong theme this month. Our Foundation Coaching Course in Haddington is now underway, helping to nurture the next wave of triathlon coaches. Alongside this, we’ve been preparing for the upcoming university club affiliation process, ensuring student athletes and clubs are well supported as the new academic year begins.

Looking further ahead, planning is already in motion for a programme of CPD opportunities this autumn, designed to give coaches and clubs the tools and confidence they need to make the most of the season ahead.

Performance

For our performance athletes, August has been a time to focus on a dedicated training block. After a busy start to the season, which culminated in the European Championships, this has been the perfect opportunity to build strength and consistency. With key races on the horizon in September, the focus now is on making sure athletes are in peak condition to carry momentum into the second half of the year.

Another highlight was the Academy Selection Day, held at Knockburn Loch alongside the IRC team. The day began with open water swimming, cycling, and transition skills, before athletes put their learning into practice with a series of mini races in the afternoon. It was an inspiring day that highlighted both the depth of talent in Scotland and the passion that drives our young athletes forward.
