Aquathlon Season is GO | Weekend Review 2 – 3 March

Scotland’s first Aquathlon of 2024 took place this weekend, with athletes flocking to Bellahouston Park for the Glasgow University Aquathlon.

A popular season opener, the event had a sprint (750m swim, 5km run) and novice (400m swim, 2.5km run) race, with 184 participants toeing the start line.

Hosted by Glasgow University Triathlon Club, the event also hosts the Scottish Student Sport Aquathlon Championships, with over 70 students from across Scotland racing in the sprint event.

In the Open race, it was a tightly fought contest, with the top 3 separated by just 13 seconds. With the fastest run split of the day, Owen Wilkinson (University of Edinburgh Triathlon Club) claimed the win in 26:38 just ahead of teammate Vadim Sean Laime (26:45, University of Edinburgh). Angus Lindsay (University of Strathclyde Triathlon Club) would cross just 6 seconds later to claim a well-deserved third place (26:51).

In the Female competition, Cade Wright (University of Edinburgh Triathlon Club) put in a dominant performance to be first over the line in 28:17, 46 seconds clear of second place Kara McKenzie-Tait (29:03, Edinburgh Triathletes). Tallulah Wright (University of Edinburgh Triathlon Club) claimed 3rd in 29:28, ahead of Mia Padmanabhan (University of Glasgow Triathlon Club), who was third student over the line (29:50).

In the Novice event, Joe Crawford (Glasgow Triathlon Club) finished first in the Open category (15:58), ahead of Juliette Kidd (East Fife Triathlon Club), who was first Female in 16:28.
