Race Report | 2025 Scottish National Schools Aquathlon Championships

Scotland’s future swim bike run stars lit up the day with grit, smiles, and sensational performances at the 2024 Scottish National Schools Aquathlon Championships, held on a bright and breezy Saturday at the beautiful Michael Woods Sports & Leisure Centre in Glenrothes.

From the first splash to the final sprint, young athletes gave it their all, showcasing not just their fitness but their determination, enjoyment, and passion for multisport.

With more than 400 pupils from schools across Scotland taking part, the energy was electric right from registration. Athletes from as far as Inverness to the Borders made the journey, and their supporters — families, teachers, and friends — brought a wonderful buzz to the venue.

There was a real sense of camaraderie in the air, with seasoned racers encouraging newcomers and plenty of smiles shared between competitors as they set up for the big day ahead.

The course was well laid out, and our brilliant volunteers kept everything moving smoothly throughout the day. A special thank you to the marshals whose encouraging words gave many young racers that little extra boost just when they needed it most!

S3/4 Open- 400m swim, 3km run
1st – Ross Allan, Perth High School
2nd – Daniel Hendry, Lomond School
3rd – Harrison McMillan, Fairview International School

S5/6 Female – 400m swim, 3km run
1st – Leyla Wedderspoon, Erskine Stewart Melville
2nd – Katie Meek, Inverness Royal Academy
3rd – Arianna Carmichael, Glasgow Academy

S5/6 Open – 400m swim, 3km run
1st – Rory Treharne, Glasgow Academy
2nd – Ewan Mitchell, Balerno High School
3rd – Ruairidh Stirling, Inverness Royal Academy

Mixed Team Relay – 200m swim and 1km run per athlete in a S1-3 Female, S1-3 Open, S1-6 Female, S1-6 Open format
1st – Clydeview Academy
2nd – Balerno High School
3rd – Erskine Stewart Mellville (ESM)

Regardless of finishing times, every participant embodied the true spirit of of the day: resilience, sportsmanship, and fun.

Triathlon Scotland’s Event Manager, Alicia Deans, summed it up perfectly:

“Events like today show how bright the future is. It’s not all just about competition — it’s about building confidence, skills, friendships, and a lifelong love of sport.”
