Personal Coach
The Personal Coach Award is designed to equip existing Group or Level 2 coaches with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively coach individual athletes. The comprehensive learning program covers essential aspects of 1:1 coaching, including athlete profiling and planning, fostering strong coach-athlete relationships, utilising technology for athlete monitoring and managing coaching as a business. On completion, coaches will be able to enhance the performance, well-being, and overall experience of their individual athletes.
Pre-requisites and Eligibility Criteria
- Be age 18+
- Hold a Level 2 Triathlon qualification or a Group Coach Award
- Valid Workforce Licence
- Hold a valid safeguarding certificate
- We recommend that all applicants have at least 12 months of Triathlon coaching experience before commencing this course.

Structure and Format
The course covers 10 core topics:

Wrapped around these core topics, there are also flexible “Hot Topic” discussions to address emerging issues and areas of interest throughout the course.
Each core topic has two elements:
- Self-led online content such as learning modules, podcasts, videos, reading materials and website resources.
- Discussions/interactions such as online forums for discussion and idea sharing, tutor-facilitated discussions with case studies and scenarios.
The course is offered in both online and blended formats to accommodate your learning preferences.
Online Format
The online delivery format involves online workshops:
- Introduction and The Personal Coach (2-hours)
- Planning (3-hours)
- IT and Technology in Coaching (2-hours)
- Maximising Athlete Experience (2-hours)
- Evaluation and Reflection (2-hours)
- Time to discuss Assessment process and requirements (2-hours)

The online workshops for each course will be spaced out differently. All sessions will run via TEAMS from 6.30pm – 8.30pm. In order to complete the course you will be required to attend all 6 sessions.
Blended Format
The blended delivery involves two face-to-face days with additional online components:

Assessment
The course involves two assessment tasks:
- Planning, managing, and evaluating a full 12-week coaching plan for an individual athlete.
- Developing an action plan for your coaching and self-development.
Duration
To allow for learning, development and time to complete the assessment, the course is spread over 6-9 months with an estimated 30-50 hours of home study. The total qualification period is 12 months. Failure to submit within this timescale may incur additional charges.
Additional Information
To complete the Personal Coach Award, you must coach an individual athlete in your own coaching environment. Therefore, it’s recommended to have access to a potential athlete and any mentor support you may require from a more experienced coach before starting the course. Further guidance on selecting an athlete will be provided by your course tutor.
All Personal Coaches are expected to complete the UK Anti-Doping Advisor Course also known as Coach Clean. This can be done before or during your course but must be in place prior to completion of your course. The course is free of charge. Without this you will not be sanctioned or insured to coach once qualified to do so.
Once qualified, what will my remit be?
As a Personal Coach you will have the following remit:
- Independently plan, deliver, and evaluate individual athlete coaching programs
- Support Foundation (and Level 1) and Group (and Level 2) coaches to deliver and develop

Course fees
TO ENSURE THAT COURSES ARE ACCESSIBLE, WE ARE TRIALLING A SPLIT PAYMENT. THIS IS PAYMENT ONE OF TWO (2 x £225), TOTAL FEE IS £450. You will be required to make the second payment before the course start date.
